Your Navy TODAY – Prowler Takes Off From Carrier Carl Vinson; Submarine Louisville Port Call

On any given day, in your Navy, our team of more than 600,000 professional Sailors and Civilians are working together around the globe to perform our mission: deter aggression and, if deterrence fails, win our Nation’s wars. It is not possible to share every aspect of this global team but, through this blog, we offer you a glimpse of what these men and women do.

The Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Louisville (SSN 724) maneuvers alongside the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) during a coordinated tended mooring and theater security cooperation port visit. Louisville is on a deployment to the western Pacific region while Emory S. Land is on an extended deployment to Guam, serving as the U.S. 7th Fleet'Äôs lead afloat fleet maintenance activity from the ship's permanent homeport at Diego Garcia.

The Military Sealift Command fast combat support ship USNS Supply (T-AOE 6) conducts a replenishment at sea with the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78). Porter is deployed as part of the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group to support maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.

Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) 2nd Class Dwayne Foster, assigned to the air department aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), directs an EA-6B Prowler onto a catapult for launch. Carl Vinson and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.

Navy Diver 1st Class Brian Mouton, assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 2, Company 2-1, moves the newly re-fabricated Commodore Oliver Perry cemetery gate into place at the Lapeyrouse Cemetery. The gates, from the cemetery where Perry was first buried in 1819, were later dedicated to him in 1926 and have since fallen into disrepair. Members of Company 2-1 and civilian crew members from the Military Sealift Command rescue and salvage ship USNS Grapple (T-ARS 53) repaired the gate in time for the rededication ceremony on April 4.
