Your Navy TODAY (Mar. 14, 2012)

On any given day, in your Navy, our team of more than 600,000 professional Sailors and Civilians are working together around the globe to perform our mission: deter aggression and, if deterrence fails, win our Nation’s wars. It is not possible to share every aspect of this global team but, through this blog, we offer you a glimpse of what these men and women do.

Sailors aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) prepare to heave the mooring lines as they visit Naval Station Mayport for a port visit. Wasp left her homeport of Norfolk to conduct routine operations in the waters of the Southern Caribbean and use the degaussing range in Mayport, Fla.

Capt. Kent D. Whalen, commanding officer of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), delivers remarks during a celebration in the ship's hangar bay commemorating 30 years since the ship's commissioning. Carl Vinson was commissioned March 13, 1982. Carl Vinson and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.

Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin E. Dempsey visits the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program and is given a tour by Sailors assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 1. The Marine Mammal Program uses bottlenose dolphins operated by EODMU-1 as a means of locating and marking mines.

The MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter Ghostrider 53, assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 28 Det. 1, conducts twilight helicopter rope suspension training with members of the Italian navy's Gruppo Operativo Incursori.
