Military Spouse Employment Partnership: Looking Forward

This past Wednesday marked the official launch of the Military Spouse Employment  Partnership – MSEP.  What an event!  Set in the majestic Hall of Flags at the US Chamber of Commerce, the ceremony featured remarks from Mr. Tom Donahue, President of the US Chamber of Commerce; Dr. Clifford Stanley, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness; Mrs. Deborah Mullen, spouse of ADM Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a titan of support for our military families for over forty years; and the Second Lady of the United States, Dr. Jill Biden.  Having Dr. Biden join us was especially meaningful as both she and the First Lady have championed efforts through the White House’s Joining Forces initiative for communities to reach out and embrace our military families, especially in the area of military spouse employment.  With the launch complete, the program is “live” and ready to begin connecting military spouses to rewarding, portable careers from corporate partners seeking a talented and motivated workforce.

The ceremony inducted 15 new employment partners, including Microsoft, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Navy Federal Credit Union, and the US Chamber of Commerce, to a growing list of companies committed to hiring our military spouses.  It also publicly and formally recognized the rich nature of these important partnerships.   I can assure you that all our employment partners, which currently number 72, are committed to helping military spouses realize their career aspirations.  This is just the beginning.  We have many employers who have already signed up to be considered for the team.  Stay tuned for more on this in the coming weeks.

I am also proud to announce that central to Wednesday’s launch is the new MSEP Web portal where ‘job-ready’ military spouses can begin searching and applying for positions that match their interests and skills, and ‘partner-ready’ employers can start the process to join our great MSEP team:  www.msepjobs.com.

I encourage our military spouses to discover and explore this exciting new website and all that it has to offer.   It also is now “live” and ready for you to kick the tires!  As I have asked of you in the past, please provide me your frank and honest feedback in the coming weeks regarding your impressions of the site.  One of my main goals is for you to have a rewarding experience while navigating within it, so if we are falling short of this goal and not meeting your needs, please let us know what we need to do to improve.   As this website was created to assist and empower you, our military spouses, your feedback is critical.

Hiring Our Heroes Los Angeles

Following the success of the US Chamber’s Veterans on Wall Street (VOWS) job fair in New York City last week where many of our military spouses attended, I’m very happy to announce that due to the tremendous response from both veterans and military spouses, the Chamber has re-opened registration for additional participants for the upcoming “Hiring Our Heroes” Los Angeles hiring fair on July 10.  And as you know, we will be extremely honored to have Their Royal Highnesses, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge join us there as part of their visit to the United States.  Again, this hiring fair is for veterans and military spouses, so I urge you to register here as soon as possible for this once in a lifetime opportunity!  It is also important to note that uniformed Service members within close proximity to departing the Service are also welcome to participate.  In fact, we have some cases where husband and wife teams are making the trek to LA to attend!

I hope you are as excited about the launch of MSEP as I am.  This is the continuation of a journey where we will help empower, encourage, and employ our military spouses who want meaningful jobs and careers.  I am confident that together we will watch MSEP grow to serve even more of our military spouses, who are so deserving of this effort.  Until next time, take care.
