ARLINGTON CO Says ‘Thank You’

Joyce Rumsfeld, wife of former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, christens the amphibious transport dock ship Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Arlington (LPD 24)

From the Commanding Officer of PCU Arlington, Cmdr. Darren Nelson:

It was exciting as we formally transitioned from Hull Number 24 to ARLINGTON.  Mrs. Joyce Rumsfeld has been a wonderful sponsor and we look forward to her future support through our Commissioning and beyond.  I want to thank everyone who was able to make it to the Christening ceremony – it was a wonderful event put on by Northrop Grumman Ship Building Gulf Coast.  It was a humbling honor to be able to talk with the family members of the victims of the Pentagon attack, and meet with the former crew members of AMGR-2 ARLINGTON.  Our crew members had a wonderful time and we enjoyed meeting and talking with everybody.

ARLINGTON already has a strong crew that will not only honor our name sake but will be a shining example to the Fleet showing our great country that this ship and her crew have the strength and fortitude to carry out our nation’s missions for the next 40 years.
