ARABIAN GULF (Oct. 2, 2014) An F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the Tomcatters of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 31 takes off from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77). George H.W. Bush is supporting maritime security operations, strike operations in Iraq and Syria as directed, and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8 returned to Naval Air Station Oceana, Va., Nov. 14, 2014, following its successful nine month deployment conducting combat operations, maritime security operations, and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th fleet areas of responsibility.
