Pertaining to the navy family. Everyone in the service gets paternity leave besides single males. How is this equal opportunity?
Not having a kid is it’s own reward.
Maternity/paternity leave isn’t a “reward”. In part for the mother it is a medical necessity for her and the child. For fathers it’s to help at home.
Think of it like house hunting leave. It’s there to help elevate the burden on the individual.
Who said anything about a reward? So because I’m not married I don’t deserve 10 days to help out at home like married people? It’s my child regardless I feel that I deserve that time with my baby just like everyone.
Agreed. apparently it’s a DOD law not a Navadmin. The only reason being because the law specifically states “Wife”. Which is pretty absurd.
Then again only 10 days is pretty bad.
Thank God for these reforms sailors have talked and griped about this for over 50 years hats off to SECNAV on the new promotion and retention policies!
So will SECNAV send a relief for that missing wo man power missing from the ranks while she’s on extended baby leave?
CAP program has always been and always will be a joke, never used on Sailors who deserved the promotion, but those who were best friends with their chiefs.
I wonder when, exactly, the BCA will be disconnected from pass/fail. I can pass the PRT even on a bad day, but man, the BCA has hung over my head like a mallet since Day 1. I really want to stay in and I’m trying like hell. I can do my job, I can keep up when it’s time to throw weight around, and I can outrun some people ESPECIALLY after a lot of lifting and such having been done (eg tire flips followed by uphill sprint) but the damned BCA might have me out in 3 months.
I sincerely hope this gets pushed through as quickly as possible, so that this next PRT won’t end a career I thoroughly enjoy and have been working hard at for a long time.
