Your Navy TODAY (Mar. 2, 2012)

On any given day, in your Navy, our team of more than 600,000 professional Sailors and Civilians are working together around the globe to perform our mission: deter aggression and, if deterrence fails, win our Nation’s wars. It is not possible to share every aspect of this global team but, through this blog, we offer you a glimpse of what these men and women do.

Sailors handle de-energized cables on the flight deck aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) in preparation for a magnetic treatment (DEPERM) at Lambert Point Magnetic Treatment Facility. The DEPERM process reduces the electromagnetic signature of the ship in order to limit its exposure to undersea mine detection.

Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) recover at the stern gate of the forward-deployed amphibious dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46) after a night exercise in combat rubber raiding craft. Tortuga, part of The Essex Amphibious Readiness Group, is underway on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.

Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, left, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Jonathan Greenert, Under Secretary of Defense and Chief Financial Officer Honorable Robert F. Hale, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. and Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Raymond T. Odierno provide testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Subcommittee (HAC-M) concerning the fiscal year 2013 budget submission from the Department of Defense.

Rear Adm. Fernandez Ponds, left, commander of Navy Region Hawaii, shakes hands with Indonesian navy Col. Anwar Saadi near the Indonesian navy tall ship KRI Dewaruci. Dewaruci is participating in the international operation Sail 2012 as part of the commemoration of the War of 1812.
